Who picks up the tab when one of the “I don’t need health insurance” crowd gets hit by a bus?
While wandering into the street texting?
the bus company, really?
So public transportation pays when someone steps in front of a bus while not paying attention?
I suppose they pay when you pull out in front of them in your car too.
Interesting concept, Sparkey.

should be the person who gets hit by the bus. service rendered, services paid. i went years without health insurance in my 20s, as many do. i broke my arm and paid the hospital back in full…
And so the solution is to just have the taxpayer pay for their insurance? That’s supposed to save us money?
The Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) is a U.S. Act of Congress signed into law by President Ronald Reagan passed in 1986 as part of the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA). It requires hospitals and ambulance services to provide care to anyone needing emergency healthcare treatment regardless of citizenship, legal status or ability to pay. There are no reimbursement provisions. As a result of the act, patients needing emergency treatment can be discharged only under their own informed consent or when their condition requires transfer to a hospital better equipped to administer the treatment.

Ironically, my wife’s ex husband was killed when he stepped out in front of a bus. But it had more to do with severe mental issues than him texting and walking. However, if your question is designed to find an answer that holds those WITH insurance accountable while their rates go up, I might have to agree to a point. But is government controled health care REALLY the answer? I’m not so sure.
It depends on if the person has money or a job. They will be billed for it. If they don’t pay, get sued and have an income they may get garnished to pay the debt.
Well, that would be me. 60% of personal bankruptcies are due to medical bills. Trillions of dollars gets shuffled over to those who pay… To pay for those who do not. In reality, it’s heath care welfare.
.
How do you know he or his family isn’t paying for it themselves? Not everyone is a leach on the public system.
See, that’s what I would like, catastrophic h/c, not the kind where you have to go to the Dr. for a yearly check up, To me that’s just nonsense.
He was not hit by a bus. It was an electric car that runs on coal.
Considering the odds of survival, I’d say Charles Darwin.

Accidents involving vehicles are not covered under health insurance. That’s why vehicle insurance is in effect.
