Why do Democrats want to answer “I can’t afford health insurance” with…?
“You MUST buy health insurance! And we’ll fine you if you don’t.”
And the Republicans, with their “You peons don’t deserve any help with health insurance. Get a third job if you can’t afford it.”
Are they both CRAZY?
We need full health care nationalization, not some “public option” where the insurance companies get our money funneled to them at gunpoint!
Seriously - since when does someone say in response to “I can’t afford it” –”We’re gonna make you buy it anyway”?

That is why we need a “Progressive” Political Party, and we don’t have one!

HR 676 is the answer.
Ha, I go to the hospital emergency room where I know that I can’t be turned away by law. The taxpayer pays for my health care one way or another. However, the emergency from way is incredibly expensive.
Most states have laws now requiring that everyone have car insurance….doesn’t seem to bother anyone….and most of the Republicans are pleased past anything knowing that these measures were enacted….MAKING other people have to pay for their own insurance whether they wanted it or not…
Of course you are ignoring the subsidies proposed to help people buy insurance.
My main problem is that private companies won’t sell me insurance. And that hospitals are charging ridiculous amounts for 15 minute checkups for my ICD. Once upon a time I could afford the hospital charges without trouble, that was 3 years ago. They have gone up 350% since then.
Because every single politician in Washington doesn’t know what the hell they’re doing. All they know is that some lobby goon came by and told them that America has a health care problem and then a suitcase full of money was slid under the table.
Tell me one thing the federal government has ever taken over that makes you think it can run the health care industry. YOU CAN’T because it hasn’t happened. Everything the federal government touches sees quality drop as costs skyrocket.
Do you prefer the federal government saying, “If you can’t afford something and want it, we’ll just tax your neighbor (steal your neighbor’s earnings) to provide what you want”? That’s the federal government’s response to lazy people.
Ms. Minerva, I pay for my auto insurance. You pay for yours. Under the currently threatened plot, I would have to pay for health insurance for fat people, drunks, smokers, junkies, tramps, baby factories and illegals. JUSTIFY THAT! You can’t!
Noah, where do you get the right to tell me I am a slave to someone else’s choices? Why should I pay for health care for fat people, drunks, smokers, junkies, tramps or baby factories? They choose to live unhealthy lives, let them pay the consequences. No “right”, exercised by one person, can put any responsibility or obligation on anyone else.
It is Un-Constitutional for the government to force anyone to spend their money. They can tax you and fine you for committing a crime but not spending money is not a crime.
Now to the Argument that “I can’t afford health insurance”……
But your On-line —————————Not needed
But you have cable tv———————Not needed
But you have a Cell Phone————–Not needed
But you have new clothing————–Try the Mission
But you have a Car ———————– Public Trans is cheaper
But you have Car Insurance————-Not needed, use Public Trans
But you have Food ———————– Food Stamps
But the power is still on.——————Makes life comfortable not needed
Why do people think that these thing are needed but Health Insurance is not? Just stupid I guess.
It makes about as much sense as the debate over whether illegals will be covered under the Public plan. Hello - we’re already paying for them, because they already get free health care anytime they walk into an ER!
Nobody has said any such a thing. I think some right wing radio dummy said that someone said it….but that’s not the point. We already have a ‘public option’ insurance venue. It’s called Medicare. All you have to do is survive until age 65 and a few months and ‘yer in. Contrary to general belief Medicare isn’t ‘free’. The government takes $ 95.00 a month out of your Social Security check for Medicare Part ‘A’. Then you have to come up with another hundred bucks or so for Medicare Part ‘B’. But for that kind of money you get coverage that rivals anything you can get from the commercial insurers for a whole lot less money. And guess what…..? Your CARE isn’t RATIONED, and there are no DEATH PANELS. Plus, if you want you can get other supplemental health insurance to fill in the cracks….what’s not to like? Nobody has EVER suggested a HEALTH CARE system where the government owns the hospitals and puts health care workers on the public dime. Basically because the risk is shared out over so many people Medicare works. A public option, or MEDICARE FOR ALL would work even better because the risk would be shared even more broadly. ALL of the arguments against this are total BS. As far as the argument about how ‘the government is going to make you buy it anyway’ make it sound as if its a bad thing. The government forces people to build homes with flush toilets, running water and electricity, plus the structure has to be up to whatever building codes they feel appropriate. The government also force citizens to pay taxes to maintain both social and physical infrastructure. HEALTH INSURANCE is no more than any other kind of infrastructure…nobody should get a free ride anymore than someone can build a shanty on a city lot without a building permit. If you can pay you should pay. Everyone pays, but nobody pays too much. The ‘wingers have crossed ever single line of logical argument about this. Everything they say is bogus!
In Florida, that was a Republican idea - I was a student with no health insurance, and the state passed a law that required everyone attending a state university to show proof of insurance or enroll in their plan. So they take $ 1500 a year out of my student loan package to pay for something I don’t want, don’t need, and which hasn’t helped to pay for my visits to doctors and dentists. But at least the state can brag that no student in the state system is without health coverage. Duh!
Because both parties ar part of the capitalistic system and don’t have the principles n which they believe, Well except the Republicans do stand by their principles, war, capitalism and privatized commercialism medical car. Only a strong party of the left would give and fight for totally people oriented policies and pracices.
